judging from the bathing suit comment, it must have been winter

I just found some 'notes' from my computers for teachers course during my sophomore year. They look like this:
places I'd rather be right now...

in a cave with a million bats
on the moon by myself for a day
the doctor's office
barefoot in the shower
outside in a bathing suit
on an awkward blind date
Honestly, I don't remember the class being that bad. We just learned some html and made these websites that just finally disappeared. I talked on AIM for half the time, anyway. I was a little melodramatic in those days. I mean, a blind date? Come on.

gotta get back on that health insurance bandwagon

Yesterday was also a Pajamas All Day Sunday, but not for good reasons. I was sick. I haven't gotten the flu in years, but this weekend I did. I was visiting Esther in Philly and had to vomit several times in the night. Also, we were sharing a bed, so I had to climb over her every time until I decided I needed to just stay up.

But enough with the details. Creative Sunday will have to take place another time. A week and three days til Slapsgiving - I mean - Thanksgiving!

also, it was a Pajamas All Day Sunday

I practiced Creative Sunday today by working on a secret project. Ideally, I would make Christmas presents for all my family members. If I do that, I have 6 Creative Sundays left, and therefore one day to devote to each person (considering Johann as 1 and Chris and Kirsten as 1 if I decide to give them a joint gift again). However, this might be considerably harder to hide from my roommates, Dean and Karen.

While working on my project, I also watched the Beijing Paralympics. Don't ask me why they are showing it 2 months after the fact - maybe it was a second showing, just of the US special stories. And maybe I'm just emotional today, but I was definitely crying while watching it. You know how in the Olympic coverage, they tell the background about people who overcame great odds and still made it to the games? And then you get really excited for them when you watch the race or whatever it may be? Well, pretty much everyone at the Paralympic Games has a story like that. I wish they had more live coverage of them.

Also today, I read some more Kingsolver, who is fabulous, and did a thorough, VERY much needed cleaning of Mr. Poopers' tank. I replaced his filters too, which were disgusting. He is very big now, and I found out he requires a 60 gallon tank and a UV light! I could buy those things, but I have no room for a tank that big, and how would I move it? And clean it? Hmm...dilemma. I should post some pictures soon.

hooray for gum paste and Baltimore hipsters

As you may know, I love television. I must admit I watch reality shows pretty often, most of which involve competition of some kind. If a reality show doesn't have competiton in it, it probably has drama between the characters, whether they be Orange County socialites or sarcastic families of multiples. One large exception to this rule of reality TV is Ace of Cakes, the show about Duff Goldman and his crew, who run a cake shop in Baltimore City. This bakery makes ridiculous cakes that resemble pretty much ANYthing a client requests

...such as other food items

...or Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The only drama in this show arises when fondant starts to slide or when a delivery is held up by traffic - never through backstabbing or self-centeredness. The chefs/decorators are still witty and entertaining without putting people down. Unheard of! They truly respect each other's creativity and seem to really enjoy working together. I guess it helps that the owner just hired friends to work for him, but what a great community!

I think the closest things to this type of community experience have come for me when people are working towards a common goal. I think more religious and social organizations should be project-oriented (and schools, for that matter!).

Now to figure out how to parlay my pumpkin carving skills into a job at Charm City Cakes...
