Ode to Aslan

Will you miss us when we’re gone,
You lion made of stone?
Regally you guard our house,
A king upon your throne.

For two years you have been with us,
Through all our joys and hurdles
While stoically you look ahead
From out of the crape myrtles.

And though your eyes are fixed due north,
I think that you can tell
Just what went on inside our house
And in our hearts as well.

You know these walls hold memories
Of dancing, games, and song,
Of breakfast cooked with company,
Of dreams for which we long.

You know that as a ‘grown-up’ this
Was my first stable home,
A place to sink my roots down when
I could no longer roam.

And now it’s time to pull them up,
Transplant them to new ground
That isn’t all that far away;
I’ll surely see you ‘round.

I know you’ll never shed a tear,
For stone cannot feel blue.
But Aslan and your legacy,
You know we will miss you.
